Researcher form the Greater Zurich Area presented
with Google Stipend
Roland Angst, a PhD candidate at the ETH Zurich,
has received the «Google European Doctoral Fellowship» for his
work in the field of Computer Vision. Roland Angst is the only
Swiss presented with the Google grant.
This year, the grant is awarded to European PhD candidates for
the first time. Angst has been awarded for his work in the field
of Computer Vision at the Institute of Visual Computing at the
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. Angst has
been doing research and developed models for the reconstruction
of 3D-pictures since 2007 .
There are multiple applications for his work; 3D visualizations
are needed for the navigation of robots and autonomous vehicles,
as well as for virtual trainings of complicated surgical
operations e.g.
Google European Doctoral Fellowship
The Google Fellowship Program has been introduced in the US in
2009. This year it has gone global and has extended its range to
Europe, Israel, Canada and China. The program honors researchers
in computer science for their excellent work. The prize winners
will receive fellowships consisting of full coverage of tuition
and salary for up to three years. 3000 Euro for conference
attendance and travelling expenses as well as 2000 Euro for a
computer of their own are added annually.
