Zurich - Credit Suisse has invested a total of 3 million Swiss francs in VIU Ventures AG as part of a financing round that also featured other investors. This fresh capital injection will allow the start-up to further strengthen its presence on the European glasses market.

VIU Ventures AG, which was founded back in 2013, has received additional financial backing from Credit Suisse Entrepreneur Capital Ltd. As reported by Venturelab, the Swiss banking group has invested a total sum of 3 million Swiss francs in the Zurich-based VIU. In addition, Venturelab explains that both new investors and existing shareholders also took part in this financing round.

The start-up produces and markets high-quality glasses at reasonable prices. Designs for the collection are drawn up in Switzerland before being “produced by traditional manufacturers in Italy or Japan in a process comprising up to 80 manual steps”. VIU exclusively distributes its products on an online basis as well as via its own branch network. With more than 40 flagship stores and 40 partner businesses in addition to a strong online presence, VIU has successfully established itself as a pioneer on the glasses market, according to an article on the website startupticker.ch.

VIU boasts a growing client base in Germany, Austria, the UK, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands and Switzerland. According to the company’s own information, it employs more than 300 members of staff.
