Baar - Ascom is connecting its healthcare platform with an Alexa solution for care homes. This allows residents to get in touch with relatives or staff, obtain information and choose entertainment. In this way, care home operations should also be optimized.

Ascom is integrating Amazon’s Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living in its Ofelia healthcare software. Ofelia was originally designed by the French software developer Appliware, which developed this software solution primarily for clients in the long-term care sector. Ascom completed a takeover of Appliware in July 2022. With the integration of Amazon’s solution for care homes, Ascom is adding functions to the Ofelia platform that should enable older people to live more independently and make contact more easily via intuitive voice input, further details of which can be found in a press release.

In this way, care home residents can easily see and talk to their relatives and friends via video call, obtain information, discover a range of entertainment options and contact the nursing staff. This integration of Alexa Smart Properties in the Ofelia software represents a “game-changing solution for senior living”, according to Ascom CEO Nicolas Vanden Abeele. “With Alexa Smart Properties, we see the potential to further optimize operations and to reduce costs, ensuring that resident experience remains front and center of care homes”, he explains in the press release.

The integrated software is already in use in both France and the UK, the press release explains. The solution is expected to be rolled out in Italy and Germany in the near future.
