The Zurich-based start-up Auterion and maxon motor from the canton of Obwalden have agreed a strategic partnership, details of which can be found in a press release. The aim here is to pave the way towards the creation of drone fleets.

Auterion is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). The company is developing an open-source platform for the management of drone fleets. In future, the plan is for Auterion’s Skynode module to be combined with the brushless DC electric motors developed by maxon motor. The aim is to bring together the respective experience and expertise of both companies. In turn, this should simplify the operation, development and fleet management processes for drones, while also cutting costs at the same time.

“This partnership represents a new phase in software-based drones and open standardization. Together with maxon, we will offer a complete set of components for building cutting-edge drones, which are individually adapted to the needs of the company”, comments Kevin Sartori, co-founder of Auterion, in the press release.

“With our motors in the NASA helicopter Ingenuity, we have already flown to Mars. Now, however, our attention is turning to drones back on our home planet, which are set to play an important role as part of an automated future”, explains Eugen Elmiger, CEO of the maxon Group.
