Xpeng Motors is counting on expertise from the Greater Zurich Area for its P7 electric car. According to a press release, the company will equip the driver assistance system in its cars with the high-precision F9 platform from u-blox. F9 combines the multi-band technology of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) with other technologies to achieve location accuracy within the centimeter range.

According to the information provided, Xpeng Motors will implement the technology for navigation-guided driving, automated parking, and autonomous driving. For example, using this the P7 will be able to autonomously change lanes on a highway or choose the best route to the target destination.

The press release goes on to add that the F9 platform has a high standard of security with in-built systems to recognize jamming (blocking the radio signal of the key) and spoofing (sending disruptive signals). These measures protect against interference.

u-blox develops solutions that enable people, vehicles and machines to locate their exact position and wirelessly communicate via mobile networks and short-range radio. The company was founded as a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) in 1998.
