Chur/Bern - The University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons and the association ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz will jointly develop coordinated offers in training and further education. In this way, the two partners intend to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the area of information and communication technology.

The University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (FHGR) is the new university partner of ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz, an association that promotes vocational ICT training in Switzerland. The two organizations are keen to develop coordinated training courses in the area of information and communication technology (ICT) through exchange and cooperation.

Cooperation seeks to optimize ICT training
The goal is to ensure ICT competencies for the future.

With its Bachelor of Science in Computational and Data Science, FHGR offers an ICT study course that is unique across Switzerland. ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz is responsible for all qualifications for job roles in the fields of ICT and mediamatics. With 2,300 ICT trainees every year, the association is the most important supply line for Swiss universities.

Dietmar Eglseder, Head of Higher Vocational Training at ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz, explains in a press release issued by FHGR that this exchange with the university will generate “significant added value” for vocational training in ICT professions. In this way, Eglseder adds, the association will be able to offer attractive further training paths to ensure that ICT trainees acquire the skills that businesses will demand in the future.

The cooperation will seek to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the area of ICT and, in particular, data science, explains Corsin Capol, Head of Computational and Data Science at FHGR. To achieve this, training models will need to be “company-, job- and family-friendly” in order to facilitate “a seamless transition to tertiary education”.
