Rotkreuz ZG - Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and three other universities have jointly founded the DEC Institute. The aim of this organization in to develop international standards for study programs in the area of blockchain. The DEC Institute is located on the HSLU Zug-Rotkreuz campus.

Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) is joining forces with the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in Germany, the University College London Centre for Blockchain Technologies in the UK and the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad in India. Together, the partners have jointly founded the DEC Institute.

The purpose of the DEC Institute is to establish an internationally recognized digital certification platform, as detailed in a press release. This aims to ensure that further education in the field of blockchain fulfils certain technical criteria. Two certificates have already been launched. In order to be awarded these, those interested must attend a further education course recognized by the DEC Institute. The institute itself does not offer any courses, meaning that there is no competition to the further education programs offered by universities and universities of applied science. However, HSLU offers courses that are set to be recognized by the DEC Institute.

Alongside certifications, the DEC Institute also intends to establish a platform for the exchange of experiences and knowledge. To this end, it is working with companies, organizations and technology suppliers. The Web3 Foundation and Tezos Foundation, two Zug-based blockchain foundations, as well as the US blockchain firm Ripple Labs, have already been brought on board.

The DEC Institute is located on the HSLU Zug-Rotkreuz campus, which also houses the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information. Moreover, it is therefore right at the heart of “Crypto Valley”, a region in which numerous companies, associations and foundations operating in the area of blockchain technology have already been established.
