Zurich – DeepCode has raised around 1 million Swiss francs in a financing round. The spin-off from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich is innovating a smart assistant for software developers.

DeepCode has raised 1.1 million francs in a seed financing round led by the venture capital company btov Partners with participation from angel investors Thomas Hofman, entrepreneur and professor at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and Joachim Schoss, founder of Scout24.

According to a statement, DeepCode is developing a machine-learning programming assistant that can support software developers with ideas and help produce quicker and cheaper results.

“DeepCode is the result of the latest research in the fields of artificial intelligence, software engineering and programming languages,” explained Boris Paskalev, co-founder and CEO of DeepCode.

He added: “The codes that the assistant instantly generates offer developers the opportunity to learn from the combined knowledge of the software community and big code, and thus to create a secure and stable programme in a shorter timeframe.”

DeepCode was founded as a spin-off from the ETH in 2016. Alongside Paskalev, who also co-founded the medical company Khearos, its founders include ETH professor Martin Vechev and Veselin Raychev, who spent five years as a software developer at Google before achieving his doctorate at the ETH.
