Schlieren ZH – The most promising startups in Switzerland have been selected in the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Awards 2021. The podium places were taken by startups from the Greater Zurich Area. Planted Foods secured first place, followed by Cutiss and 9T Labs.

Venturelab has once again presented the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Awards, naming Planted Foods as the best startup in Switzerland. The spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) headquartered in Kemptthal in the canton of Zurich develops plant-based alternatives to meat. Its products also contain no additives, chemicals or hormones.

Second place went to Cutiss AG based in Schlieren, also in the canton of Zurich. The spin-off from the University of Zurich (UZH) develops technology for the manufacture of individualized skin transplants, which lead to less scarring and can grow with patients so should also be well suited to be used for children.

Third place was taken by 9T Labs from Zurich. The ETH spin-off develops a 3D printer for the production of carbon components. Carbon is both sturdier and lighter than steel. For this reason, it is in high demand as a material for aircraft construction, prosthetics or implants, for example.

The eleventh TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award was organized by Venturelab and supported by Credit Suisse and Swiss Venture Club. This year, the awards ceremony took place in the new startup space in Schlieren. The best startups have the opportunity to present to international investors. Among other things, they also benefit from coverage in several languages including Chinese and Japanese.

Since the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Awards only consider companies that are five years old or younger, Venturelab has also issued a scale-up list, which honors the best startups between five and ten years old. This includes multiple companies from the Greater Zurich Area, including the Schwyz-based artificial intelligence startup 1plusX , the medtech company Ava based in Zurich, and  Avrios International, a software company from Zurich.
