Davos – The Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research Davos is to establish a Center for Proteomics through a special professorship for life sciences. Graubünden’s government intends to offer up to 3.49 million Swiss francs by 2026.

The government of the canton of Graubünden has tasked the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research Davos (SIAF Davos) to establish and run a Center for Proteomics, as was reported in a government press release. This will occur by means of a special professorship for the field of life sciences.

For this project, which is expected to run from 2020 to 2026, the government will provide funding amounting to around 3.49 million francs overall. This is subject to Grand Council approval of the annual budget.

With this new center, the site of the Medicine Campus Davos will reportedly be “methodically and structurally developed to meet the requirements of cutting-edge research in the canton of Graubünden in the areas of allergology/immunology, precision medicine, biomarkers and regenerative medicine”.

According to the government, precision proteomics are one of the core technologies in personalized medicine. Personalized treatments of this kind will be advanced by scientists at the new center together with colleagues from the Hochgebirgsklinik Davos, the  AO Research Institute, the SIAF Davos and the Graubünden cantonal hospital. Owing to an assistant professorship, the SIAF already has an institutional link to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich. This connection will be further strengthened.

The collaboration between researchers in Graubünden and Zurich will enable “relevant cutting-edge research to be conducted on an equal footing with international research communities in future,” the government writes. ssp
