HeiQ No Fuzz is a range of products designed to increase abrasion resistance and reduce pilling and fuzzing in different types of textiles. The technology is based on novel adhesive polymer structures that give targeted reinforcement inside yarns as well as on their outer surface. Like tree roots that protect soil from erosion, the polymer structures adhere to and reinforce the fabric yarns, explains HeiQ in a statement.

The new technology protects fabrics from abrasion. This helps prevent visible defects like holes from forming, thus improving the overall quality of the textiles.

According to HeiQ’s co-founder Murray Height, the new technology also makes textile products more environmentally friendly. Conventional textiles tend to release fibres into water during laundry, contributing to ocean microplastic pollution. The new HeiQ technology significantly reduces this process. It also prolongs the life cycle of textile products, which in turn reduces their environmental footprint.

HeiQ is a spin-off of the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.
