Zurich/Bellinzona – Healthcare workers at seven public hospitals in the canton of Ticino will in future be using the communications solution developed by the start-up Komed Health. This secure platform is designed to allow therapy and care teams to communicate and collaborate more efficiently.

Komed Health to supply hospitals

The digital health start-up Komed Health AG, which is headquartered in Zurich, has signed a contract with the cantonal hospital authority for the canton of Ticino (Ende Ospedaliero Cantonale, EOC). According to an article on startupticker.ch, the communication and collaboration platform developed by Komed Health is to be introduced at a total of seven hospitals in Ticino.

In future, more than 5,000 employees in the area of therapy and care at these seven hospitals will be able to use this communication tool on their iOS or Android cell phones, as well as on computers. According to the article, the platform combines product integrations, services and data analytics to allow users to communicate and collaborate in real time and with greater efficiency. In this way, informed decisions can be made faster, with hospital costs cut and improved patient outcomes recorded as a result.

At the onset of the coronavirus crisis, the canton of Ticino developed into one of the epicenters of the pandemic in Switzerland. The pandemic “has clearly shown that an easy-to-deploy and easy-to-use but secure digital communication and collaboration platform is desperately needed in healthcare facilities”, according to Michele Marazza, Head IT Processes at the EOC. The healthcare workers employed at the hospitals are also “more relaxed” when they know that their personal data isn’t being stored “somewhere in the USA”, Marazza explains further.

A series of successful pilot tests have been conducted in advance at the EOC. According to Luiza Dobre, CEO and founder of Komed Health, the positive results and decision by the EOC to make use of the platform represents proof of the solution’s great potential. Marc Bornträger, VP Engineering and co-founder of Komed Health AG, also explained that the company has spent more than 3,500 hours attempting to analyze and understand both healthcare processes and clinical workflows. He added that based on this skill set, the company has set itself the goal of becoming the leading purpose-built, mobile communication platform for the healthcare sector.
