Logistikum Schweiz with headquarters in Altdorf and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) are working together to strengthen Central Switzerland as a logistics location. In the first step, the two institutions intend to offer a master’s degree in logistics and the management of supply chains, as the HSLU announced in a press release. The degree course will commence in 2022 and studies will be based in Altdorf and Lucerne.

The HSLU already offers university teaching and research in the fields of personal mobility and traffic systems. It also boasts a broad spectrum of further education opportunities related to mobility, transport and traffic. “What Switzerland lacks is a master’s degree that specifically focuses on logistics and supply chain management,” commented Markus Hodel, President of the HSLU, in the press release. The partners’ aim is to train specialists who are equipped to “make an important contribution to Switzerland’s great innovation system”.

The education and innovation center Logistikum Schweiz was founded in 2019 with the backing of the canton in Altdorf and is supported by the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. According to Urban Camenzind, the Director of Economic Affairs and Landammann (chief magistrate) of the canton of Uri, Altdorf was not chosen by chance. “The canton of Uri has a long tradition as a transport canton and logistics hub,” explained Urban Camenzind in the press release. “By developing the research and educational opportunities with international reach here in Altdorf, the education and innovation landscape in the entire region gains a further important focus.”
