Kloten ZH/Lucerne - Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) has opened a new center located in The Circle. Here, more than 250 experts from around the world will collaborate on an interdisciplinary basis to investigate and develop therapeutic substances, while marketing activities will represent an additional focal point.

The biopharmaceutical group MSD has opened a new, globally-oriented innovation and development center located on the grounds of Zurich Airport. According to a press release, a host of top research, development and marketing experts from around the world will be collaborating at The Circle. With this center, MSD is strengthening its focus on data processing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning. In so doing, the company is seeking to respond to new challenges in the healthcare sector.

“The center will host more than 250 employees from various backgrounds and roles that bring with them a wealth of views and experiences so that we can advance our life-saving solutions for the benefit of patients”, comments Frank Clyburn, Executive Vice-President and President Human Health at MSD, in the press release.

Dr. Dean Li, President von MSD Research Laboratories, praises the exceptional ecosystem of academic institutions and life sciences firms that Zurich has to offer. “The new MSD hub will be a unique location for international collaboration and innovation”, he adds.

MSD is a trading name of Merck & Co., headquartered in Kenilworth in the US state of New Jersey. MSD has been active in Switzerland for 60 years and already operates four locations in the canton of Lucerne. The group employs around 1,000 staff in Switzerland.
