Nexxiot, a startup from the Greater Zurich Area, has won a major contract from the German logistics company VTG. It will equip the entire tank container fleet with sensors to bring more transparency to the supply chain.

Nexxiot will equip all of the currently around 9,000 tank containers in the VTG Rail Europe GmbH fleet with its sensors and accompanying software, announced a statement. In a move to bring more transparency to the supply chain, the sensors levy data during transport that can then be processed, analyzed and shared with clients. Nexxiot will start equipping the fleet in spring 2020.

VTG provides global tank container services for the chemicals, mineral oils and compressed gas industries. “Security and transparency in the supply chain are enormously important for our tank containers and we welcome every opportunity to further optimize this,” commented Jan Röbken, Managing Director at VTG Tanktainer.

Nexxiot is a spinoff from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). According to the statement, the startup company has already equipped around 50,000 transport objects such as freight wagons and tank containers with sensors. Between 3,000 and 4,000 objects are being added each month.
