Ruf presents camera against Covid-19

Ruf Avatech AG, based in Schlieren in the canton of Zurich, has added a camera to measure the body temperature of individual people in contactless fashion to its product range that also includes the VisiTemp CD camera, which is designed to measure fevers in crowds of people and was showcased at the end of August. Fever is one of the first symptoms of Covid-19. A press release cites typical locations for use of the new camera as building entrances, access points at meeting and conference rooms, restaurants or in front of counters.

The new Ruf VisiTemp SD camera actually offers dual functionality. It measures the body temperatures of approaching people in contactless fashion and at the same time controls access permission by way of facial recognition software. Both functions can be used together or independently of each other, the press release states. VisiTemp SD stands for ‘single detection’, while the VisiTemp CD version stands for ‘crowd detection’. The latter facilitates the detection of up to 45 infected people at the same time.

The new VisiTemp SD detects and analyzes the face of a person at a distance of 1.2 meters. The infra-red sensor measures the body temperature on the forehead with a precision of +/- 0.3 degrees in a matter of milliseconds before showing this on its display, Ruf Avatech writes in the press release to describe the device’s functionality.
