Zurich - Seervision, a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, has received grants from three separate European Union funding programs. With these grants totaling in excess of 2.5 million Swiss francs, Seervision is planning to expand its software for the automation of video production processes. This should help companies to improve communications during the pandemic.

Seervision has been awarded three grants from European Union (EU) funding programs, namely the EIC Acceleator Pilot, Eurostars and the Innovation Associate Grant. The support from the EU amounts to more than 2.5 million Swiss francs in total.

Using this fresh capital injection, the spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) will now seek to expand its automation software including visualization functionalities that help to further lower entry barriers for potential new customers. As detailed in an article on startupticker.ch, organizations and companies of various sizes and reach are increasingly investing in video broadcasting solutions with the aim of addressing audiences by way of virtual and hybrid events, especially during the pandemic. The grants have arrived at “the perfect time to complement Seervision’s recently launched financing round, aimed to close by the end of 2020”, according to the article.

With the help of computer vision and machine learning, the solution developed by Seervision allows cameras to identify and tracks a person’s movements. In so doing, the focus, zoom and framing are autonomously adapted in order to produce the perfect shot. “We designed our solution to be plug-and-play to both existing workflows and hardware setups” comments Nikos Kariotoglou, co-founder and CEO of Seervision, in the article.

“This reduces the barrier of entry for potential clients and allows us to play an active role in the emerging market of live corporate video. The next step will be to deploy our system in cloud servers and remove the need for dedicated processing hardware”, Kariotoglou adds. In this way, customers would be able to use the software in a matter of clicks without the need for any processing equipment on site.

Since Seervision showcased its first product at the NAB trade fair in Las Vegas in 2019, the start-up has installed a total of 25 systems for several paying customers. As a result of this growth, the Seervision team has been expanded to 23 full-time employees (FTEs). According to the article, the company is presently in the process of establishing a partner and reseller network with the aim of scaling operations and establishing its solution in automation-focused regions such as the USA and Japan.
