Neunkirch SH – At the Schmerlat airfield, companies and universities are given an opportunity to test innovative drone technology. The two start-ups Daedalean and UAVenture have already successfully trialed their developments in autonomous flight control at the airfield.

Drone start-ups praise Schmerlat airfield

Developers of drone technologies have had the chance to conduct test flights at the Schmerlat airfield in Neunkirch. This opportunity has been seized by two start-ups, namely Daedalean and UAVenture, as detailed in an article published online by Economic Promotion Canton of Schaffhausen.

Daedalean is a start-up based in Zurich that develops software for autonomous flight control. The aim here is for this technology to be used both in traditional aviation applications as well as forming part of future autonomous flight solutions in urban settings. UAVenture, a start-up based in Aarau, is working on the development of a system for autonomous flight control in drones. The two start-ups cooperated to conduct test flights at Schmerlat airfield. In this way, Daedalean was able to test its software on the drones to be used by UAVenture.

“The testing of our technology out in open space in real conditions is of critical importance for us”, explains Anna Chernova, Co-Founder of Daedalean, in the press release. She adds: “To stay ahead of the competition, we need such practical testing opportunities as are offered on the Schmerlat”. As a start-up company, Daedalean is dependent on its capacity to improve its technology as fast as possible and to rapidly rectify any faults identified during practical testing.
