Zurich – Verity Studios has raised 18 million U.S. dollars from renowned investors. The startup company from the Greater Zurich Area develops drones that can deliver indoor shows during live events.

Verity Studios has raised 18 million U.S. dollars in a series A financing round, announced a statement. With investors including Airbus VenturesSony Innovation Fund and Kitty Hawk, it is now the world’s most well-funded company in the indoor drone market.

When it was founded in 2014, Verity Studios became the first company to bring autonomous indoor drones to live events. Its drones have since appeared in concerts for renowned bands including Metallica – a performance that saw the drones choreographed to fly over the stage projecting different colours. The company has also worked with Cirque du Soleil.

Verity Studios plans to use the new funds to expand its live events business and other commercial fields, with a particular focus on growth in the USA. The company also intends to work with other drone manufacturers to increase the reliability of modern drones by incorporating its failsafe technology.

“We are thrilled to work with our new investment team to accelerate our growth and expand operations,” commented Verity Studios founder Raffaello D’Andrea. As an expert in artificial intelligence (AI), he also co-founded Kiva Systems, which was acquired by Amazon in 2012 and renamed Amazon Robotics.
