The following sections explain the market forces behind this development.

LegalTech’s global momentum - and the Swiss advantage

LegalTech refers to the use of technology and AI to streamline legal services – from contract lifecycle management and case handling, to e-signatures, legal research and digital compliance.

According to PwC Switzerland, law firms adopting LegalTech can reduce overheads, improve profitability, and attract new clients through efficiency and transparency.

What sets Switzerland apart is its combination of legal certainty, pragmatic regulation, and accessible institutions paired with direct access to talent and enterprise buyers. This creates an environment where AI-driven legal and compliance solutions can scale across borders with confidence.

Switzerland offers a rare mix of legal certainty, pragmatic regulation, and trust which gives LegalTech and RegTech teams the clarity they need to build solutions that scale across borders.

Case Study: DeepJudge, from ETH spin-off to $300M global player

DeepJudge is one of the clearest examples of Greater Zurich’s LegalTech momentum. Founded by former Google researchers and ETH Zurich PhD graduates: Paulina Grnarova, Kevin Roth, and Yannic Kilcher, the company builds customized AI search engines that allow law firms to find information across their private archives – securely and accurately.

As Forbes reports, DeepJudge recently raised $41 million in Series A funding led by Felicis and Coatue, reaching a valuation of $300 million. Coatue partner Caryn Marooney described the appeal succinctly:

“Everybody - legal of all things - really can't afford the hallucinations”

By indexing internal knowledge rather than public internet data, DeepJudge dramatically reduces hallucination risk and protects confidentiality – key requirements for enterprise LegalTech.

Their trajectory illustrates a simple truth: Greater Zurich’s combination of deeptech research, legal tradition, and trust-based business culture creates fertile ground for scaling AI responsibly.
