The university analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has published its new ranking of the best cities for students in the world. Switzerland is represented by Zurich as one of the ten best cities. Compared with the last ranking, Zurich was even able to advance one place, with it now being in seventh position.
Zurich scores well for the quality of its universities, among other things. For example, QS has rated the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) as the best university in continental Europe in other rankings. Furthermore, the University of Zurich is regularly listed as one of the best 100 universities in the world.
However, students also value the good job prospects in Zurich. The city placed sixth in the corresponding category on a global level. Furthermore, students rate the city’s livable status particularly highly. Zurich took third place in the global desirability category. For instance, its proximity to nature and high quality of life were praised. The costs of living in Zurich are comparatively high, but students can save money on tuition fees, which are significantly lower than those in the UK, the USA and Australia.
First place in the ranking was occupied by London, followed by Munich, Seoul, Tokyo, and Berlin. Switzerland also saw a new entry to the ranking this year with Lausanne. The home of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) came in 19th place.
