Home dialysis system authorized for the market

The number of chronically ill kidney patients is continually on the rise, according to a press release issued by Peripal. Moreover, the healthcare costs for patients suffering from renal insufficiency are disproportionately high. Home therapies could reduce costs here, while the majority of patients would also prefer treatment from within the comfort of their own homes. Nevertheless, the risk of infection and increasing age, among other factors, means that most patients currently opt for hospital-based dialysis.  

An auxiliary device developed by Peripal for patients who require peritoneal dialysis is set to change this. The start-up developed this solution together with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) as well as in close collaboration with patients. PeriSafe – as the device is named – can prevent infection and significantly simplify the treatment process, according to information provided by Peripal.  The device has now received authorization for the European market.
