Bern/Zurich – Swiss Post is offering a new service that monitors temperatures inside packages along the entire transportation route. The sensor technology has been provided by the startup Modum.

Swiss Post is launching an innovative Thermomonitoring service. By placing their goods inside a ThermoCare box, senders can monitor the temperature inside along the entire transportation route. The sensors can also be used to provide temperature measurements within standard packaging. The postman scans the shipment at delivery and at this point the measurement data is read automatically and transmitted to the sender. This new solution is especially targeted at senders of pharmaceutical products and the food industry. It is hoped it will prevent damage and simplify quality management.

Swiss Post reports in a press release that it developed this temperature sensor in collaboration with the Zurich startup Modum, which was founded in 2016 by a group of entrepreneurs with backgrounds in technology and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Modum offers next generation solutions for supply chain intelligence and automation, creating digital ecosystems powered by Internet of Things sensing and Blockchain technology for a wide range of applications related to sensitive goods in various industries.

Thermomonitoring has been available at Swiss Post since Tuesday and will now be tested. The valuable client feedback will be used to further improve the service.
