Rümlang ZH – The Californian company Hurricane Electric is establishing a new point of presence at the e-shelter data center in the Greater Zurich Area. This will improve high-speed connections for companies in Zurich and the surrounding area.

Hurricane Electric is establishing a new point of presence (PoP) at the e-shelter data center in Rümlang. A PoP is a hub within a communications system with the aim of establishing connections between two or more communications networks. The new PoP should bring improvements to high-speed connections for companies in and around Zurich. Moreover, load sharing and bottleneck management should also be improved, with increased fault tolerance as well.

Mike Leber, Founder and President of Hurricane Electric, explained in a press release: “Zurich is an economic and cultural hub in Switzerland as well as one of the major European financial centers. We are delighted to be in a position to offer customers improved, cheaper connectivity options in conjunction with e-shelter”.

According to information available, the data center in Rümlang was constructed in 2011 and was e-shelter’s first to be located in Switzerland. It covers an area of 26,000 square meters. e-shelter is a subsidiary of the Japanese NTT Group.

Hurricane Electric operates its own global IPv4 and IPv6 networks. According to information provided by the company itself, Hurricane Electric is the world’s largest IPv6 and IPv4 backbone operator, measured in terms of the number of linked networks.
