A new university campus is opening on September 14 on the Suurstoffi site close to Rotkreuz station. It is set to welcome more than 1,350 bachelor’s and master’s students, and has space for 100 participants at further education events, as well as 210 staff, according to a statement from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU). The new campus will be home to the School of Information Technology, which has been on the site since 2016, and the currently Zug-based Institute of Financial Services IFZ.
“Our information technology and financial services campus is the only one of its kind in Switzerland,” said HSLU president Markus Hodel. “In light of the lack of specialists in information and communications technology, and the challenges that digitalization poses for the economy and society, we want to drive promising development in the region and beyond.”
The campus is located in two connected buildings, which were designed by the ARGE Büro Konstrukt Architekten & Manetsch Meyer Architekten and constructed within two years. One of them is 60 meters high with nine storeys, making it the tallest wooden building in Switzerland. Six of its floors will be occupied by HSLU. The other building, with six storeys, will be used solely by HSLU, with 12,700 square meters of office and teaching space in the two buildings. The Audimax has 300 spaces, and students and lecturers will have access to cutting edge laboratories and workshops.
The inauguration on September 14 is open to the public.
