Zug has ranked eighth in a global expat ranking published by InterNations. The quality of life in the city is higher than anywhere else in the world, say the expats. With Basel, another Swiss city ranked in the top ten.

The Munich company InterNations surveyed expats about life in 82 cities around the world. Questions were posed on quality of life, acclimatization and work in the city, finances, housing and the cost of living. Zug ranked eighth in the world, according to the ranking.

It was primarily the city’s high quality of life that ranked it so highly. In this category, Zug ranked higher than any other city, thanks to its high scores for safety and politics (first place), and transport (second place). Expats also praised Zug’s urban surroundings, cleanliness and easy access to medical care, with the report describing it as a quiet green city.

Last year, Zug came 23rd in the Internations’ Expat City Ranking, so it has climbed a total of 15 places. “It is Zug’s overall package that makes it attractive to expats and the Swiss,” said president of the city Karl Kobelt in an article from “Luzerner Zeitung”. Kobelt adds that Zug also offers interesting jobs, moderate tax rates and beautiful living surroundings. Nature is close by, he adds, as well as education institutions and a wide offer for shopping, culture and sport. Zug furthermore offers safety, transport infrastructure and proximity to Zurich Airport.

Basel ranked 10th in the survey, putting two Swiss cities in the top ten. Taipei came top, followed by Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore. Other Swiss cities featured were Lausanne (36th), Bern (38th), Zurich (41st), Lugano (53rd) and Geneva (69th).
