Founded in 2018, the private university owned by multi-millionaire Serguei Beloussov has announced that it recently achieved a milestone: on Wednesday, the first seven students enrolled in the master’s program in computer science at the Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) celebrated being awarded their diplomas. For the most part, they had been studying abroad at the partner universities such as Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, USA, or the Computing School at the National University of Singapore. Dino Tamagni, member of the Cantonal Council of Schaffhausen, Minister for Economic Affairs and Acting Minister for Education, also took part in the online event.

“As a canton, we are keen to strengthen our reputation as a location of business with an education and research institute geared towards future technologies in order to train new talents for the important ICT industry and attract new talents to Schaffhausen”, comments Tamagni in a press release issued by the SIT. He adds: “Thanks to the SIT, the canton of Schaffhausen will now also establish itself in the global educational arena”.

The students received a double diploma from Carnegie Mellon University in the USA and the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore. The new master’s group that recently started their study program includes 29 students. According to Beloussov, this number should reach 2,500 within the space of a decade. In contrast to the first year group, the second also includes a Swiss student, the press release explains. New master’s programs in the areas of business and physics are set to be added over the next few years.
