Virtuozzo acquires OnApp

Virtuozzo is acquiring OnApp. The London-based company provides software and services that hosts, managed service providers and telecom operators can use to create and market their own public, private and hybrid cloud computing. Virtuozzo’s CEO Alex Fine is quoted in a press release by the company based in Schaffhausen, saying: “OnApp shares that commitment and brings to Virtuozzo incredible engineering talent and complementary technologies that help us advance the cloud infrastructure industry as a whole.”

According to the information provided, Virtuozzo’s expertise has previously focused on “high-density server virtualization and software-defined storage”. This acquisition is following the new strategy of expanding into hyperconverged infrastructure “as it is crucial to the market’s evolution”. Virtuozzo states that the 35-percent increase in demand for cloud infrastructure found in a report from the Synergy Research Group last year is the most important factor for this acquisition as well as the good timing. Furthermore, according to an analysis by 451 Research, there are potential new market opportunities for alternative cloud service providers.

The CEO of OnApp, Ditlev Bredahl, also sees the fusion of both companies as a great advantage: “In addition to OnApp technical expertise in cloud orchestration, user interface and content delivery networks, Virtuozzo sees the value our highly talented staff brings to the table. Integration and evolution of the joint solution stack will be strongly beneficial to the customers of both companies.”
