Based in Schlieren in the canton of Zurich, the start-up Fixposition has launched a new high-precision navigation system on the market, further details of which can be found in a press release. The Vision-RTK 2 can be used on a global basis and offers centimeter-level accuracy. The low-power, compact, industrial-grade device is suitable for autonomous delivery and logistics vehicles, agricultural, mowing and landscaping machines as well as any other application for which precise, uninterrupted positioning is required anytime, anywhere. Moreover, the company has uploaded a video online focused on its development.
“As vehicles and machines become increasingly autonomous, they must safely and precisely negotiate complex routes, even where global positioning satellite visibility is degraded or blocked”, comments Zhenzhong Su, CEO and co-founder of Fixposition, in the press release. Vision-RTK 2 is making this possible, as the deep sensor fusion technology combines satellite GNSS technology with advanced computer vision and machine learning.
Lukas Meier, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and co-founder of Fixposition, comments on the process. The sensor fusion technique developed on the basis of global optimization is far more “robust and powerful than traditional Kalman filters”, Meier explains. A Kalman filter is a mathematical method used to evaluate parameters.
Fixposition is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). The company is headquartered at the IJZ, an innovation and start-up park located in Schlieren and is also a member of Start Smart Schlieren.
