Zurich/Detroit - Freudenberg Sealing Technologies is one of eleven automotive suppliers in 2022 to receive a PACE Award in Detroit from the local trade journal “Automotive News”. The company was recognized for its development of an innovative valve for pressure equalization in BEV batteries.

Freudenberg Sealing Technologies was awarded one of the 12 Automotive News PACE Awards that went to a total of 11 automotive suppliers on September 19 in Detroit, Michigan. The Automotive News PACE Awards serve to recognize outstanding product and process innovations from automotive suppliers on an annual basis. An independent panel of technology experts decides on the finalists for the competition, which, according to a press release, is recognized as the industry benchmark for innovation around the world.

At the 28th award ceremony, Freudenberg Sealing Technologies was honored for its DIAvent Highflow pressure compensation valve. According to the press release, two years of research and development work have gone into this valve, which represents a “unique industry solution”.

It controls both air pressure fluctuations and emergency degassing inside the battery housing of electric cars during operation. According to the company, it is therefore more cost-effective than two separate components, requires less installation work and reduces the complexity of the supply chain. It also supports the use of higher density batteries. In turn, this benefits the range, performance and safety of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

“Our customers asked us for a solution to enhance the safety of BEVs in the event of a battery fire”, comments Matthew Chapman, President Automotive Sales at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, in the press release. “DIAvent Highflow provides them with a unique industry solution”, he adds, before explaining that the award will help to increase interest in the solution.
