Bestsmile expanding production capacities

Bestsmile has doubled its production space to 500 square meters at the company’s headquarters in Winterthur. At the same time, the infrastructure has been massively upgraded too, further details of which can be found in a press release. In addition to industrial 3D printers, CNC milling machines and plasma ovens, a new production robot is at “the heart” of these upgrades. It was developed in close cooperation with OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. Bestsmile intends to use the robot to handle the fully automated production of 10,000 aligners, i.e. invisible braces, per week.

In Switzerland, Bestsmile has made a name for itself with its aligners. Last year, the start-up also introduced veneers, which are wafer-thin ceramic shells for teeth that have become discolored and worn, or those that are too small.

The dental start-up was founded four years ago, before being taken over by Migros earlier this year in March. At present, Bestsmile employs 50 members of staff. “We are currently in the process of strengthening our team”, comments CEO Michael Wendt in the press release, adding that: “The uniquely modern working environment naturally helps us to attract the best specialists. But it is also an investment in Switzerland as a production location in general and, more specifically, Winterthur in particular”.
