Lugano-Viganello/Uster - The Laboratory of Audio-Visual Processing and Immersive Multimedia at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) will be presenting its solution for 3D soundscapes using few speakers at CES in Las Vegas. The technology was developed together with Weiss Engineering.

The Laboratory of Audio-Visual Processing and Immersive Multimedia based in Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino will be presenting its immersive audio playback solution in Las Vegas at the world’s most important entertainment electronics trade fair: CES 2023. According to a press release, there the team hopes to find commercial partners who are interested in integrating this solution into their devices.

The laboratory is part of SUPSI’s Institute of Information Systems and Networking (Istituto sistemi informativi e networking, ISIN). In 2021, the institute established contact with Analog Device, a leading global manufacturer based in the US state of Delaware specializing in integrated circuits specifically designed for audio signal processing.

ISIN Director Prof. Tiziano Leidi commented: “Thanks to the numerous positive responses to the technology that we developed within the context of an Innosuisse project, we were offered the opportunity to bring a demonstration system to the trade fair in Las Vegas. We are extremely proud of this chance that has come from our contact with Analog Device.” He adds: “This is proof of its value and the growing international reach of projects developed by our institute.”

These days, immersive audio technologies are an integral part of virtual reality. They enable 3D soundscapes to be created, surrounding and enveloping listeners. Unlike conventional solutions, the ISIN only uses a limited number of speakers to create a high level of sound immersion with its technology, which was developed together with Weiss Engineering from Uster in the canton of Zurich.

CES is being held from January 5 to 8. mm
