Zurich – The Research Commission at ETH Zurich, which promotes young researchers and projects, is now celebrating its 75th anniversary. Its president Uwe Sauer says the university as especially strong in drone research at this time.
Big banks launch blockchain project
Zurich – The two major Swiss banks UBS and Credit Suisse are teaming up with SIX and other global financial players to launch a new blockchain initiative. The project aims to improve the quality of counterparty reference data, which is required as part of the upcoming implementation of the MiFID II regulation in January 2018.
WayRay to open R&D centre in Schaffhausen
Schaffhausen – WayRay is developing a technology that can display information for drivers on the vehicle’s windshield. Its investors include the Chinese internet company Alibaba. The start-up is now moving to Schaffhausen.

Zurich/New York – Coca-Cola put on a Christmas light show on Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York City using technology from the Zurich-based start-up Fanpictor.
Kässbohrer chooses Canton Uri for Swiss headquarters
Altdorf – Kässbohrer, a Germany manufacturer of snowcats, has chosen Werkmatt Uri in Altdorf as the site for its new Swiss headquarters. It will create some 30 skilled jobs beginning in summer 2019.
Digitalization finds its way into agriculture
Schaffhausen – New technologies are being tested for their use in agriculture at the Swiss Future Farm. GVS Agrar from Schaffhausen, which manufactures agricultural machinery, is involved in the project.
Swiss Data Science Center enjoys successful launch

ZKB to digitalize investment advice
Zurich – Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZHB) is looking to digitalize its investment advisory process. Beginning in 2018, client advisors will be able to visualize portfolios using a tablet. The bank’s Chief Investment Office will also make regular investment proposals to clients via e-banking services.
