"Outstanding framework conditions for doing business: The professional support from public officials, infrastructure and transportation connections are unbeatable," Jerry H. Gifford, CEO of CROWN Packaging Europe GmbH.
Crown Holdings Inc., which has its headquarters in the USA, is one of the world's leading manufacturing companies in the metal packaging sector. With 21,335 employees worldwide, 147 production plants in 40 countries and net sales of 8.6 billion USD (for 2012), Crown is considered the world's number one manufacturer of cans for food, beverages and aerosols.
With the creation of CROWN Packaging Europe GmbH, the company's European headquarters (including Middle East and Africa) have been located in Baar, Canton Zug, since January 2011. The goal of opening a new branch is to restructure the European operations and concentrate everything at a new location. Since the move to Zug, Crown has started new operations in Turkey, Russia and the Azores. Crown has also completed one of the largest acquisitions in its history in 2014 with the purchase of Mivisa Envases of Spain.
Several locations were considered for the European headquarters before Baar was eventually chosen. "We haven't regretted it yet," commented Jerry H. Gifford, CEO of CROWN Packaging Europe GmbH. Among other things, he considers the outstanding business framework conditions, professional support from public officials, infrastructure and transportation connections unbeatable. For employees, the quality of living is very high when it comes to schools, internationality and geography. Furthermore, the proximity to key international clients and suppliers offers an additional invaluable business location advantage.
The administration of the canton of Zug actively supported CROWN during the entire set-up process. The Kontaktstelle Wirtschaft – a location promotion office – and the tax administration in particular provided information, answered questions in great detail and recommended local contacts.
