Zurich – AdNovum is extending its NEVIS Security Suite with a mobile authentication solution that uses fingerprint or face recognition to identify users. The innovation will make transactions via e-banking easier and more convenient.

With its mobile authentication solution, AdNovum is responding to the increasing importance of mobile devices as a communication channel with companies, explained the Zurich software company in a statement. The solution, which is an extension to the NEVIS Security Suite, is based on the open industry standard for secure and convenient online authentication, Fast Identity Online (FIDO).

The customer's access data is “stored exclusively on his mobile device and protected there by the operating system and hardware”, writes AdNovum. Thanks to public-key cryptography – in which a key pair is used to encrypt and decrypt a message – the solution also protects against data and identity theft and prevents phishing attacks.

AdNovum describes the authentication solution as “secure and convenient”. It can authenticate users via fingerprint or face recognition, either directly in the app where it is needed or from a separate app via push message. For companies, the solution can be linked to a Software Development Kit, which supports the development of software for mobile devices. It is already being implemented at several companies, according to the statement.

The NEVIS Security Suite itself is “Switzerland's market leader for identity and access management and protects over 80 per cent of all e-banking transactions”. AdNovum’s customers include companies from the finance, insurance, telecommunications, manufacturing and logistics industries as well as federal offices and cantons.
