Neuchâtel - The Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) generated more than 100 million Swiss francs in sales in 2022. It also launched two start-up companies and registered 26 new patents in the year under review. Andreas Rickenbacher is the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.

CSEM generated a total revenue of 100.4 million Swiss francs in 2022. This corresponds to a growth of 3.5 per cent year-on-year, according to a statement from the technology competence center, which is a non-profit public-private organization. The achievement marks a “remarkable milestone” in driving innovation and economic growth, it writes.

In the year under review, CSEM also founded two start-up companies, MATIS and Alpamayo IQS, and established a new site on the campus of the University Hospital Bern. In addition, CSEM applied for 26 new patents. Artificial intelligence activities for the life sciences were relocated to the Allschwil site of the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area in the canton of Basel Landschaft.

In its statement, CSEM highlights two collaborations with business partners. With Micro Crystal AG, it developed the most accurate and energy-efficient temperature-compensated real-time clock to date. Working with Meyer Burger, it developed an innovative perovskite silicon tandem solar cell technology.

During the company’s Annual General Meeting on 9 June, Andreas Rickenbacher was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. The economist succeeds Claude Nicollier. “Every franc of public funding invested in CSEM resulted in 15 francs of revenue in the country,” commented Rickenbacher in the statement. This “exemplifies the crucial role technology transfer centers play in driving Swiss innovation and economic growth”. ce/hs
