Innovative concept set to offer flexible lab space

Swiss Prime Site Immobilien has entered into a partnership with Superlab Suisse, a supplier of lab and research facilities. According to a press release, Superlab Suisse will provide operational and fully equipped research and laboratory spaces as well as operational services. The two partners have drawn up plans to develop sites across a total area in excess of 10,000 square meters. According to Superlab Suisse, the laboratory based in Schlieren in the Greater Zurich Area will cover an area of 5,400 square meters alone.

The Bio-Technopark Schlieren-Zürich is already home to institutes of both the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the University of Zurich (UZH) in addition to research centers of numerous national and international pharma firms. The demand for laboratory space is correspondingly high, the press release explains. Swiss Prime Site Immobilien is planning a modern newbuild project at the JED site in Schlieren. In cooperation with Superlab Suisse, this will offer research and laboratory spaces for start-ups, spin-offs and established companies across two floors.

According to Zhang Xi, CEO of Superlab, due to the direct proximity to the Bio-Technopark, companies active in the life sciences sector can benefit from the significant synergy effects of these ecosystems. In an interview with the newspaper “Neue Zürcher Zeitung”, she explains that the Lab-as-a-Service concept incorporates innovatively designed laboratory facilities, state-of-the-art devices and professional services. “These companies should have to worry as little as possible about infrastructure, allowing them instead to focus their investments entirely on research and innovation”, Zhang Xi comments in the article.
