The KJUS ski jacket with integrated Hydro_Bot technology has two functional membranes in the back zone, explained the Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in a statement.
These Hydro_Bot membranes are composed of a layer of billions of pores per square meter surrounded by an electrically conductive fabric. Via a small electrical impulse, “the pores turn into micro-pumps that actively conduct moisture away from the body quickly and efficiently”, continues the statement. Thanks to the integrated control unit and smartphone app, the electrical impulse is easy to switch off.
For the clothing industry, the Hydro_Bot technology developed by Osmotex, a technology company headquartered in Thalwil in the canton of Zurich, in partnership with Empa is “the first significant innovation since the introduction of waterproof and breathable membranes 40 years ago”, according to the statement.
The Swiss luxury brand KJUS’s new ski jacket featuring the technology is “up to ten times more efficient than normal membrane jackets and is not affected by freezing temperatures”. KJUS is headquartered in Hünenberg in the canton of Zug.
