Zurich – The startup Vivior has developed intelligent glasses that can register head movements and other habits of the wearer. Optical chain Kochoptik will now be using these glasses to provide individualised vision care solutions to customers.

The wearable device developed by Vivior measures parameters such as head movement, distance to objects or light conditions, and analyses these using machine-learning algorithms. The glasses can be worn by patients before eye surgeries, for example, to provide doctors with precise data. Now they will also be employed by opticians, it was reported in a press release. Customers at Kochoptik branches will wear the device to assess their visual needs. The data collected will then be used to select the optimal vision care solution based on their individual needs and lifestyle patterns.

“The use of our system by Kochoptik opens new opportunities for Vivior in vision care,” commented Mario Stark, CEO of Vivior. Choosing the right spectacle lenses according to a customer’s lifestyle has the potential to boost business for both companies.

Vivior was founded by a group of experienced eye care professionals in 2017 and is based in the Technopark Zurich. The startup recently raised several million dollars in a funding round.
