Schaffhausen – After a successful pilot phase, the canton of Schaffhausen has decided to permanently implement the electronic identity solution from Procivis. Alongside public services, it will also be used in the private sector.

For four months, the canton of Schaffhausen tested the electronic identity solution from Procivis, a startup from Zurich. During the pilot phase, citizens were able to store an electronic ID on their smartphone and secure access to a wide range of online services provided by the canton. This solution is also a secure way of storing digital documents on a smartphone.

It has been reported that the feedback after the pilot phase was positive and the canton of Schaffhausen has therefore decided to integrate the solution in regular operation from June. The range of e-services that can be accessed by means of this eID+ are being continually increased. Alongside access to public services, eID+ will also serve as a means of electronic ID verification in the private sector. KSD, the IT services of the canton and town of Schaffhausen, received requests to this effect from companies over the course of the pilot phase.

“The successful pilot has demonstrated that Schaffhausen eID+ will allow us to further expand our location and competitive advantages,” said Walter Vogelsanger, Schaffhausen Federal Councillor and president of the core e-government team. With the introduction of eID+, Schaffhausen is proud to be a pioneer in the area of e-government at cantonal and municipality level.
