Sensile Medical is working with Sanofi and Verily (formerly Google Life Sciences) to both develop and commercialize the insulin patch pump, announced a statement.
The technology will be a new generation connected pump, primarily designed to treat people living with Type 2 diabetes. Already filled with insulin, the pump can be applied to the skin like a plaster for single use.
With Sensile Medical contributing its expertise in developing micro-pump technologies for medical use, the alliance will also leverage the pharma company Sanofi’s skills in patient-centred diabetes solutions and insulins plus Verily’s experience in digital healthcare technology.
“Our goal is to develop a new type of pump technology that is simple to use and appropriate for people with Type 2 diabetes, as well as by those with Type 1 diabetes who are the primary users of insulin pumps today,” commented Derek Brandt, CEO of Sensile Medical, in the statement.
Sensile Medical is headquartered in Olten in the Greater Zurich Area.
