Sensirion secures data with blockchain

The Zurich-based startup modum.io has developed technology to monitor the shipment of goods in compliance with the EU regulations for Good Distribution Practice (GDP). A key component of the compact data logger created by modum.io AG is the STS3x temperature sensor from Sensirion, the Zurich sensor specialist revealed in a press release. 

Sensirion says that its high-accuracy, calibrated digital temperature sensors store the data they record on the basis of blockchain technology. The cryptographically secured data can therefore not be subsequently changed, ensuring seamless transparency between the sender and recipient in tracking the environmental conditions of the shipment. 

“By combining the calibration of each component during production, performance verification during final inspection and full traceability of each component, Sensirion provides temperature sensors able to fulfil stringent GDP requirements in pharma,” says Dr Maximilian Eichberger, Product Manager at Sensirion. For Stefan Weber, responsible for modum’s IoT (Internet-of-Things) strategy, “reliable sensors that provide accurate data are one of the key elements for meaningful real-world interfaces to blockchains”. The system developed by modum.io offers limitless “opportunities for improving the supply chain in many sectors in terms of efficiency, cost reduction, environmental impact, customer service and regulatory compliance”.
