Vantage Data Centers is establishing its 33rd campus around the world in Glattfelden in the canton of Zurich. Named Zurich 2, the data center is expected to be opened this summer, according to a press release. It is situated around 20 kilometers from the company’s other data center, Zurich 1 in Winterthur, which commenced operations back in December 2021. The global company, which is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and operates out of offices in Luxembourg and London to serve the EMEA region, had announced the construction of three data centers with a total of 40 megawatts of critical IT load on the flagship campus there, which covers an area of 3.7 hectares.

The “highly-secure and carrier-neutral” Zurich 2 campus will provide 24 megawatts of IT capacity across an area of 21,000 square meters. Vantage’s customer base includes hyperscalers, cloud providers and large enterprises.

According to the press release, Zurich 2 will provide “industry-leading power usage effectiveness and water usage effectiveness to support energy-efficient operations”. Heat pumps have been installed to repurpose waste heat in order to provide air-conditioned office space and reduce external energy consumption, while a nearby hotel and seminar center also stands to benefit from this supply.

In addition, rainwater infiltration and a green roof are part of the plans, the press release explains. The wood-finished façade of the building is intended to fit in with the aesthetic of the local community. According to the information, Vantage will employ more than 400 staff to support the peak construction period, with around 25 permanent jobs created to operate the data center. ce/mm
