The Zurich-based technology group ABB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Stäubli, an industrial group based in the canton of Schwyz. Together, the two partners intend to develop solutions that will contribute to increasing the sustainability of operations at mining companies. Stäubli’s role in the partnership will be directed through its Electrical Connectors division, the company explains in a press release.
The partners will work on bringing electrification solutions to the market that meet the requirements of industrial applications. In so doing, there will be a focus on the electrification of mining vehicles, although the long-term goal is actually to implement electrified and automated solutions right across the whole mining industry.
Stäubli will primarily contribute its highly reliable connectors to the new developments, while ABB will bring its experience and existing solutions in the areas of electrification and automation to the table for this partnership. With ABB Ability MineOptimize, the company has developed a digitalized portfolio of networked solutions that is already improving energy efficiency in mines.
“This MoU is another cornerstone of our dedication towards sustainability in mining and to reach a platform which is able to provide new solutions to the market out of collaboration between companies”, comments Mehrzad Ashnagaran, Global Product Line Manager Electrification & Composite Plant at ABB, in a press release issued by ABB.
