Kemptthal/Berlin - Since the start of this month, the dining cars on-board Deutsche Bahn trains have been offering two vegan dishes developed by Planted from the Greater Zurich Area. This partnership aims to combine environmentally friendly travel with sustainable dining. Numerous marketing campaigns will be used to support this fresh offering.

Deutsche Bahn (DB), the German national railway company, has added two vegan dishes from Planted, a foodtech start-up from Kemptthal in the canton of Zurich, to the menu of its on-board restaurants. Since March 1, passengers have been able to enjoy a sweet chili wrap and teriyaki dish.

“We are totally thrilled that our planted.chicken is now travelling all over Germany with Deutsche Bahn”, comments Planted co-founder Pascal Bieri in a press release. Both rail travel and reducing animal meat consumption offer ecological advantages. For example, the production of planted.chicken requires 74 percent less CO2 in addition to using 46 percent less water than is the case for the production of conventional chicken meat.

“Travelling by train is active climate protection”, explains Michael Peterson, CEO of DB Fernverkehr, the long-distance business unit of Deutsche Bahn, in the press release. “However, many guests attach particular importance to sustainability not only when travelling, but also when eating”, he adds. Passengers will now be able to combine both when traveling with DB.

According to the information in the press release, the cooperation will be accompanied by various marketing measures from both partners. For example, Deutsche Bahn intends to raise awareness of its new offering among customers via mailings and newsletters. In addition, the posters and screens in the on-board restaurants will also highlight this. Moreover, to mark the launch, rail tickets and on-board restaurant vouchers are to be raffled off online.
