Google partners with Acronis on cyber security

VirusTotal is a free online scan service offered by Google which analyses files and URLs for the quick detection of viruses and other malicious content. Google will now integrate a solution created by Acronis in VirusTotal, it was reported in a press release. Specifically, the machine learning-based malware detection engine called Acronis PE Analyzer will be used by the IT giant. According to Acronis, this is capable of detecting any kind of Windows PE malware.

Acronis PE Analyzer was developed as a component of a new cyber protection suite that Acronis is releasing next year. The detection engine will continue to be improved to deliver additional value to the VirusTotal community, Acronis reported.

“Our mission is to protect all data,” said Oleg Melnikov, Acronis Technology Officer. “Incorporating our ML-based engine into VirusTotal is the best way to ensure the entire security industry can benefit from Acronis PE Analyzer’s detection capabilities.”

Acronis has its headquarters in Schaffhausen and operates in 18 different countries. The software company plans to establish a technological university in Schaffhausen, which will focus on fields such as artificial intelligence and software engineering.
