Google supports We Are Play Lab

Google offers grants to universities and non-profit organisations who develop programmes for teachers to hone their computer science skills, which they pass on to their students. The IT giant predicts that this subject will play a crucial role in the working world of the future.

To enable teachers to deliver a computer science curriculum and better understand the basic principles, Google awards grants to 31 selected universities and non-profit organisations in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa region (EMEA). These then develop professional development materials.

According to an article on startupticker.ch, the edtech startup We Are Play Lab from Zurich is among the recipients of funds from Google. As a participant, it will develop a learning experience for Google that is based on playful learning principles and creative and collaborative problem-solving strategies. The programme is to help primary school teachers understand the basic principles of computer science and integrate these into their existing curriculums.

We Are Play Lab was founded by Christina Riesen, who was previously part of the management team at Evernote. The startup’s Advisory Board includes Pascale Vonmont, CEO of the Gebert Rüf Foundation and member of the executive committee of digitalswitzerland.
