Dielsdorf/Lupfig - Operations at Green’s first data center as part of its major Zurich Metro Campus project officially commenced on January 17. The data center offers space for 80,000 servers and facilitates high-density computing. Construction work on an office building will also start in January, with two more data centers additionally set to follow before the end of the year.

Green, the ICT and internet service provider based in Lupfig in the canton of Aargau, officially commenced operations at data center M on January 17. It is the first of three high-performance data centers in total that Green is planning at the Dielsdorf site in the canton of Zurich. The data centers form part of Green’s major Zurich Metro Campus project, which also includes a business park featuring several office buildings and recreation spaces. The buildings will be constructed on a site covering a total area of 46,000 square meters.

The first data center M was occupied by major customers in December 2022, further details of which can be found in a press release. Across an area of 5,600 square meters, it offers space for around 80,000 servers and facilitates high-density computing, which is especially in demand by public cloud providers (referred to as hyperscalers).

In the words of Andrea Campomilla, COO of Green, data center M is a “flagship project in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability”. On up to 300 days per year, the center is to be cooled using ambient air. Photovoltaic installations on the roof of the building and the use of renewable energy round off the sustainability concept of the data center, while waste heat will additionally be redirected into the planned district heating network.

Civil engineering works on the 3,000 square meter south office building are set to get underway before the end of January. This building will be partially used by Green, with other areas leased. In the next step, the plan is for construction work on data centers N and O to begin. According to information from the company itself, the aim is for this work to start before the end of 2023 due to demand. mm
