Chur - The University of Applied Sciences in Graubünden is opening a living lab in the Prättigau/Davos region on July 22. It will be established as a mountain region competence center with interested parties on site helping to solve regional challenges.

The University of Applied Sciences in Graubünden (FHGR) is establishing its fourth outpost: the Prättigau/Davos Lab. As with its Surselva Lab, Bregaglia Lab, and recently opened San Bernardino Lab, the living lab in the Prättigau/Davos region aims to support further development and growth in the region. Ulrike Zika, Dean of the FHGR Department of Alpine Region Development, commented in a press release from the university: “The living laboratory Prättigau/Davos aims to become the competence center for the mountain region.”

According to the information provided, the university plans to use its living laboratories to enable even more direct collaboration between research and practice. The living laboratory in the Prättigau/Davos region will support regional players with location development and implementing strategic fields according to Valérie Favre Accola, Head of Regional Development Prättigau/Davos. The focus here is on strengthening year-round tourism as well as the local economy, innovation, research, development, and the SME landscape.

According to the FHGR, the living laboratory will benefit from linking several research initiatives in Davos. Additionally, the university is a member of Science City Davos and Academia Raetica. The municipality of Davos is providing an office at the Innovation Center Davos from the Swiss Research Institute for Alpine Climate and Medicine. There, research institutes, spin-offs, and start-ups can already find a space to exchange, including Academia Raetica and Lab42, an artificial intelligence research laboratory. This all enables transdisciplinary collaboration with the computer science course Computational and Data Science as well as future course offers from the FHGR.

The center will open on July 22. An open day will be held on July 29. ce/mm
