Zurich/Tokyo - Sevensense is to supplement the innovative cloud platform for multi-robot systems from Rapyuta Robotics. To this end, Sevensense will bring to the table its visual algorithms on the basis of Artificial Intelligence that allow robots to create a map and determine its position within a room.

Two spin-offs from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), the Zurich-based Sevensense and Rapyuta Robotics headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, have entered into a strategic partnership. Rapyuta develops collaborative pick-assist robots and is a pioneer in the field of cloud robotics. The company’s cloud robotics platform rapyuta.io utilizes the world’s most advanced control and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in order to build and operate highly flexible multi-robot systems, further details of which can be found in a press release. At ETH Zurich, the founding members are working on the RoboEarth and Cubli projects.

Sevensense is a provider of industrial-grade 3D visual SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) solutions. These allow mobile robots to create maps of their surroundings and at the same time recognize their own position, primarily with the use of cameras. The algorithms developed by Sevensense facilitate the creation of 3D maps of unknown environments. Such maps are more accurate and robust than current 2D maps created with traditional laser scanners. Sevensense was founded in 2018 and its technology is based on more than 15 years of research at the Autonomous Systems Lab of ETH Zurich.

We are excited to collaborate with Rapyuta Robotics with the goal that the next generation of mobile robots benefits from the power of Visual SLAM joined with the strength and flexibility of rapyuta.io
Gregory Hitz - CEO, Sevensense

Together, the two companies intend to offer the best possible localization, navigation, coordination and management options for the next generation of autonomous mobile robots. “Rapyuta Robotics is an innovation leader in cloud robotics”, comments Gregory Hitz, CEO of Sevensense, in the press release, before adding: “We are excited to collaborate with them with the goal that the next generation of mobile robots benefits from the power of Visual SLAM joined with the strength and flexibility of rapyuta.io”.
